New Building Projects

FEC ES44C4s roll by on my proto-freelance South Florida layout at Gold Coast Railroad Museum.
After several months I am happy to say LEGO building on my end is expected to pick up. Keep in mind I will use only the parts I have on hand and do not plan to go out in the wild looking for parts. The following projects can be anticipated for the months leading up to the holidays, and future changeovers for my on loan display at Gold Coast Railroad Museum. (and very important contributions to the GFLUG NMRA 2017 display in Orlando, FL) List likely incomplete and subject to change.

Town - all the exciting builds

Pasión del Cielo Modular Building retrofit (2015)

  • Pasión del Cielo Coffee Reboot The modular building that was built in 2013 was fitted with a PDC on the ground floor, but lost sections in the process (they went missing/dismantled). Thus, a decision was made to scrap the building altogether. The details were salvaged and belong on a standalone, which will likely sit inside a one floor building. Kinda cliche for a coffee shop, but it might work out better. Design to be based out of the new Brickell location (Except I'd reckon a little bigger, Dadeland sized). Model will ultimately replace the Starbucks model on display!
  • GFLUG Homes of Florida Contribution (Sorry, it's 3:30 am and I couldn't think of a better name) I've always had a suburban house up my sleeve but the latest incarnation, built 2010, is clearly stale. The new design will have locally inspired amenities, be way bigger, incorporate more than just the boring tan and dark orange, among other nifty features that I will leave until the model is done. Expect lots of outdoor details.
  • Waterside marina (GCRM Layout and maybe NMRA) The layout is slated to expand and with that will come a waterfront scene. Boats, docks, expensive restaurants, open public spaces, offices, shops, etc. Proto-Freelance design.
All town models are designed and detailed in minifigure scale for artistic vision and inspiration.

Trains

  • Florida East Coast intermodal pool - pending LUGBULK purchase, a series of FEC 53 foot containers to be built in the fall. Well cars to be constantly designed and experimented, that is the hard part...
  • FEC SD40-2s Going to represent the Port Job. These will come along later, as I am satisfied with the four engines I have now.
  • Brightline train. Design to follow finished real life product.
All train models are designed in Minifigure scale, and may appear large compared to town buildings. In the end, I am shooting for something I call "Proto-Freelance Miami", which will be explained in a later blog entry!
