LEGO Projects for the Fall Season

The return of the academic year for me means the Holiday season is fast approaching. At this point in the year it is not too early, rather just right to begin conceiving how the annual Holiday display I do shall look this year. Past photos of the mostly suburban layout available here:

This list of projects for the Fall-Winter is not limited to what's going under the tree but does set up well for that layout:

  • Promenade resort and night club. The big centerpiece for the holiday display will be a beach resort with an outdoor version of a nightclub, probably similar in essence to LIV Miami. It will join a strip of a marina on the left side, hotel in the center, and lead to a beach on the right. The beach could be parallel to a double track section of LEGO track that turns around at the end. Similar in essence to Escambia Bay, FL or even stretches of the Pacific Surfliner. I even anticipate installing state of the art lighting which will be a remarkable first. The resort's working name is Promenade. It is inspired loosely by visits to the Waldorf Astoria in Naples and will seek to have two pools (1 nightclub exclusive infinity pool and 1 family pool), two bars, restaurant, etc. The bottom of the right of the hotel will also have parking and be convention space. Rooms will not be detailed inside. The nightclub will have a stage designed to provide unobstructed views to both people partying in the pool and people staying dry.Construction is beginning right now with trial and error. The finished model may put the tree on the water, a rather unheard of idea.
  • Marina. The left hand of the mentioned strip will be a dock for boats. However, it will also have a seafood restaurant and office. There may be two brick built boats to join the modified fishing boat I had from 2011.
  • Azalea and St Augustine Office Cars, and TFT Train. Florida East Coast's office car roster have been pre-designed in LEGO Digital Designer and are to be built for the Holidays to model the Toys For Tots Christmas Train. Power car with PF Battery Box/IR Receiver and two flatcars are to join the fleet. Champion #714 may be rebuilt.
  • Traffic Light redo. The Miami traffic lights will be redone on slimmer arms using the technic cylinders seen in the 2007 Cement Mixer set. A pilot set will be installed on the Christmas layout.
  • New River D/B. A movable span is better than a static bridge, which is why the New River drawbridge (Fort Lauderdale, FL) will replace the semi-complete Tampa Bypass Canal bridge. A later on project, it will be complete in January. The main bridge span is already finished. PF motors set to train speeds will power the bridge, to ensure slow ascent and descent.
  • Second Boxcar GEVO. Twin sister to the already completed model.
