LEGO: 2014 LEGO Model and Hobby Goals Part 1
Christmas is over, so it's time to watch stores for After-Christmas clearances. Historically, I scored the Sphinx set, which is a great parts pack, for half off at Walmart. This year, I hope to miraculously score Laval's Royal Fighter from Chima.
Wait, why am I mentioning clearances? Because of what they can do to what I am really going to talk about... my 2014 LEGO plans.
2012 and 2013 have been marked by a boom in LEGO's color palette... not so much for earth tones, even though, yes, Olive Green sprouted and more Dark Tan than ever was being put out in sets. Dark orange made a 8 year comeback as well. But case in point, the big growth has been within the Friends and Chima lines. And it only took me until this summer to capitalize on it.
Laval's Royal Fighter has a healthy chunk of Flame Yellowish parts that will help greatly when building FEC or CSX locomotives. This tone of yellow will look better than standard Bright Yellow on locomotives and even TTX boxcars. I will be acquiring basic brick to help this project out and eventually will create a new version of FEC's champion engines.
Element, my pretty much boondoggle Skyscraper, will be getting a makeover and will be started over. Reasons being, there are too many unstable techniques in the tower, and most notably, it's just too big. The micro floors go a little too high, around the garage section, and besides, it doesn't look great next to architectural sister Skypoint. I will be acquiring the needed white 1x2 plate and 1x1 brick in the future as well to finish the build once and for all. Projected completion: Spring 2014.
I am just resolving a BL order for parts that are in aqua... a color imaginable in Mega Bloks but visible in LEGO's Friends sets Pet Salon and Heartlake Flying Club and a few Cars Sets. I will be expanding my just started store of Cool Yellow pieces as well next year, with an ample load of 1x4. All of this is in the name of a GFLUG sized (Minifig bottom, micro top) replica of Hollywood Station. Since the Bulk will come in as late as September, this will only start in the late balance of the year.
I have mentioned this tower time and time again, but I have finally gotten the parts to be headed in the correct direction. And more are planned. This tower is an icon of the FEC Railroad scene and will be an integral part to my layout when I start to replicate scenes along the Florida East Coast mainlne. Don't be mistaken, the aqua part was once a light blue, but it faded to aqua within the last few years.
The Breast Cancer locomotive will finally be built after holding off on Bricklink ordering for some lazy reason... I'll be following my design seen here:
Tri-Rail will also be built once the Maersk Triple E is bought and so are some missing elements in MdAzure. One of the toughest undertakings, the BL36PH has to have a paper decal over the cab to give it its shape since I just don't feel like doing anything else for it.
Lastly, most likely my two fleet successes in 2013, the Yelvington hoppers and TPIX reefers, will see expansions with unit train sized stock by the end of the year.
Part 2 will feature any missing goals not mentioned and what I plan to do Hobby-wise.
