Planespotting - An Approved Form of Exercise
I have probably become so lazy as to require only something that isn't just going around in circles to get my however frequent dose of exercise. So basically biking except for the tracks has been off bets, walking around the house too. Of course those two tasks were done with circuitous courses. Eventually it transcended to which I bike to the rock trains.
Ever since Lufthansa brought the A380 to Miami, my spotting frequency slowly went up, but then I seemed to be limited to Aero Squadron, so really, I found the freedom to be around one spot.
When I started meeting up with my buddy Carlos much more, who I realized to be in one class in 10th grade for a month (and I actually recount talking planes with him one day), spotting eventually moved to El Dorado (NW 72 AV). Well, I wanted to get the 388's Trent 900s spooling one day and couldn't find a better place. The view of Runway 9 became fairly unobstructed and I felt like this would be the spot for days to come. Of course, people have criticized the fencing at A.S. days before; this seemed to have solved it.
But here's where I get on topic. This spot is not a one stop shop. For a decent catch of CSX O721, one has to walk 0.6 miles "legally" (not on the tracks, but through the weeds and ex. ROW (Lehigh curved south, but now goes straight) so one is not seen by train crews) Straight down is 0.5 miles.
Abandoned concrete sleepers, a popular angle for MANY spotters, which allows high angles, is 0.25 miles away. Yesterday we went back and forth two times.
Sometimes you're going to run the sections due to lack of time. This boosts cardio activity.
Carlos and I did the 0.4 mile walk from Wendy's at Milam Dairy to Dorado as a result of rainy weather.
He also found a spot .3 miles west of 72nd at a mound by the Lehigh.
And there's the times going from Aero Squadron to Oleander for a better shot (1 mile).
Either way, in a spotting outing, you're moving and thereby exercising. That's why I approve it as a form of exercise. You do the work (making money off of videos) and you exercise; very efficient.
